Changing the default search engine used by Internet Explorer

by Gabriel Lozano-Moran 23. January 2008 20:04

I don't know if you know this but in IE there is short way to search for strings using Live Search by just entering "?" followed by a search string:

By default IE will use Live Search:

But what if you want to use Google instead? Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes\

You can either create a new SearchScope or modify the existing one. For the sake of this post I will modify the existing one by specifying the following value for the URL string value:

http://www.google.com/search?q={searchTerms}
