Restoring Office XP file associations after uninstalling the Office Compatibility Pack

On my Windows XP x64 development workstation, I had the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack installed to open files created with Office 2007 in Office XP. I had to uninstall had it, and after the uninstall, I noticed that I lost all the Office XP file associations. Here is how to fix that.

Start Word or Excel, … Select Detect and Repair from the Help menu.

Uncheck both options and click Start:

After a couple of minutes you should see this:
